What is SEBI Grade A?
SEBI recruits Officer Grade A (Assistant Manager) across General and specialist streams. SEBI is the statutory securities-market regulator, so officers may work in supervision, regulation, enforcement support, market development, legal, technology, research, language or engineering functions. Officers can be posted to any department and transferred to SEBI offices across India.
Evergreen basis: latest official 2025 notification
The details below are based on SEBI's 30 October 2025 notification and 14 November vacancy addendum, the latest official Grade A recruitment material available. They explain the exam but are not 2026 recruitment facts.
Latest-notification vacancies and streams
The original 2025 notice advertised General, Legal, Information Technology, Research, Official Language, Electrical Engineering and Civil Engineering streams. The addendum increased General from 56 to 77 and Research from 4 to 8, taking the total from 110 to 135 posts.
Latest-notification eligibility and age
General stream accepted a two-year master's/postgraduate diploma in any discipline, a bachelor's degree in law or engineering, or CA/CFA/CS/Cost Accountant qualification. Every specialist stream had its own exact qualification and, for some streams, experience condition.
Candidates awaiting final examinations could take Phase I and II, but had to produce the required qualification by the interview-stage date specified by SEBI.
Maximum age was 30 years as on 30 September 2025. Upper-age relaxation was SC/ST 5 years, OBC 3 years, ex-servicemen 5 years and PwBD 10/13/15 years under the stated reservation conditions.
Latest-notification selection process
Selection used Phase I online screening, Phase II online examination and Phase III Interview. Phase I was only for shortlisting. Phase II carried 85% and Interview 15% in final selection. Legal and the two engineering streams could receive part of the interview-stage weight for relevant post-qualification experience under the notice.

| Aggregate cutoff | Weighted Phase II score | — | — | 50% |
Specialist Paper 2 formats and durations differ by stream. Legal combines MCQs and descriptive questions; IT, Research, Official Language and engineering streams follow their own tables. Candidates must use the exact stream row in the notification.
Negative marking
Phase I Paper 1 and Paper 2 deduct one-fourth of the marks assigned to a wrong answer. In Phase II, the same penalty applies to multiple-choice questions in Paper 2; descriptive answers are not subject to objective negative marking.
Syllabus and preparation scope
General Paper 2 covers Commerce and Accountancy, Management, Finance, Costing, the specified Companies Act chapters and Economics. Paper 1 adds financial-sector awareness, English, quantitative aptitude and reasoning; Phase II English tests drafting. SEBI publishes detailed specialist annexures, so Legal, IT, Research, Official Language, Electrical and Civil candidates should prepare only the syllabus assigned to their stream.
Latest-notification fee and pay
In 2025, Unreserved/OBC/EWS candidates paid ₹1,000 plus 18% GST; SC/ST/PwBD candidates paid ₹100 intimation charges plus 18% GST. Grade A basic pay was ₹62,500 in the ₹62,500–1,26,100 scale. SEBI stated approximate Mumbai gross monthly emoluments of ₹1,84,000 without accommodation or ₹1,43,000 with accommodation. These are latest-notification figures, not a 2026 fee or vacancy announcement.
Probation, role and career context
The latest notice set a two-year probation. Recruited officers may be posted to any department irrespective of stream and transferred to any SEBI office in India. Work varies by department and can include market regulation, intermediary supervision, surveillance, enforcement support, policy, legal, research or technology. Career progression follows SEBI service rules without a guaranteed timetable.
