Who can apply for SBI PO 2026-27?
The basic qualification is graduation in any discipline from a recognised university or an accepted equivalent qualification. Final-year candidates may apply provisionally where the notification permits, but the required proof must be available by 30 September 2026. Sitting for the final examination is not the same as having proof of the qualification by the stated date.
The age band is 21 to 30 years on 1 April 2026, before applying the relaxations stated in the notification. Use that reference date rather than today's age. A birthday after 1 April cannot repair an age shortfall on the official test date.
The dates matter
A final-year candidate should write down two dates: the date on which the university will issue the result or accepted proof, and 30 September 2026. If the proof is available by the deadline, the provisional route can continue subject to SBI's verification requirements. If the result arrives later, do not assume that an examination admit card, attendance record or expected result will be accepted in its place.
The same discipline applies to age and category documents. Eligibility is a dated, document-based decision. It is not established merely because an application form was accepted.
Attempts and relaxations
For this cycle, the notification provides six attempts for UR/EWS candidates, nine for OBC and applicable PwBD categories, and no attempt cap for SC/ST candidates. Only an appearance in the Main Examination counts under the stated rule; a Prelims-only appearance does not. Keep an attempt log from scorecards or call letters rather than memory.
Age and attempts are separate rules. A relaxation that changes the age band does not automatically change every other condition, and multiple relaxations should not be combined unless the notification expressly allows it. Category claims also depend on the prescribed certificate, issuing authority and validity.
The document check
Before relying on provisional eligibility, confirm: recognised graduation or accepted equivalent; proof available by 30 September 2026; date of birth inside the 1 April 2026 window; the category or PwBD certificate in the required format; and the number of earlier Mains appearances. Keep the advertisement and corrigendum with the documents used for the claim.
The CIBIL clause mentioned in earlier material was removed by corrigendum and is not an active eligibility filter for this cycle. Do not reintroduce it through an old checklist.
Meeting the qualification and age rules allows participation. It does not guarantee a Prelims shortlist, a Mains call, final selection or joining. Those are later outcomes governed by examination performance, selection rules and verification.
