First separate official structure from preparation coverage
IBPS officially fixes the sections, questions, marks, timing and selection rules. It does not guarantee a future chapter-by-chapter question list. The topic map below is PYQ-based preparation coverage, not a claim that IBPS has issued an exhaustive syllabus.
Prelims — Reasoning
Prepare the recurring bank-exam families: seating arrangements and puzzles, inequalities, syllogism, coding/decoding, direction, blood relation, order/ranking, alphanumeric/letter-number patterns and other short logical questions.
The main skill is representation. Write fixed information first, use cases only when needed, and avoid turning every small question into a long diagram.
Prelims — Quantitative Aptitude
Build calculation through fractions, percentages, ratios, averages and approximation, then connect it to arithmetic: profit-loss, simple/compound interest, mixture, partnership, time-work, pipes, speed-distance, boats/trains and other common word problems.
Also prepare number series, simplification/approximation and Data Interpretation. PYQs should decide the depth; a huge formula list should not.
Main — Reasoning
Move from Prelims speed to denser multi-condition arrangements, complex puzzles, logical reasoning and mixed short questions. Practise under the exact 30-minute section clock.
Main — Quantitative Aptitude
Main Quant needs stronger DI + arithmetic integration, interpretation, selection and controlled calculation. The question may be less about one formula and more about recognising the shortest valid route.
Main — General Awareness
Build current affairs with connected Banking & Financial Awareness: RBI and regulators, banking products, payments, financial inclusion, rural banking, NABARD, priority-sector/rural credit, economy, government schemes, agriculture/rural-development linkages, reports/indices, appointments and major national/international developments.
For RRB PO, rural economy and financial inclusion deserve extra attention, but GA should not become a random agriculture-static-GK dump.
Main — Computer Knowledge
Cover practical fundamentals: hardware/software, operating systems, memory/storage, networking, internet, cyber security/hygiene, office applications, database basics, common shortcuts and frequently tested terminology. Use PYQs to control depth.
Main — English or Hindi Language
For English, prepare reading comprehension, contextual grammar, vocabulary, cloze/fillers, sentence relationships and coherent paragraph flow.
For Hindi, focus on comprehension, grammar and usage in context, vocabulary and sentence meaning rather than memorising literary theory.
Interview preparation is separate
There is no official “Interview syllabus”, but serious preparation should cover your profile, current banking/economy, RRB structure and purpose, rural credit/financial inclusion, the State and RRB you have chosen, and situations where judgement/communication matter.
Use PYQs as the filter
A topic belongs in your preparation because it repeatedly helps solve real RRB questions or supports a Main/Interview requirement — not because a coaching list is long.
