RRB PO

IBPS RRB PO Selection Process 2026: Prelims, Main & Interview

Officer Scale I selection is Prelims → Main → 100-mark Common Interview → provisional allotment. Prelims is screening only; final relative weight is Main 80% and Interview 20%, with notified interview minimums of 40% for General/EWS and 35% for SC/ST/OBC/PwBD.

Stage 1 — Preliminary Examination

Prelims contains Reasoning and Quantitative Aptitude. It is a screening examination for the Main stage. Prelims marks do not enter final merit.

Candidates must clear the required cutoffs. The correct Prelims objective is therefore reliable qualification with margin, not chasing a previous year's exact State cutoff.

Stage 2 — Main Examination

Main is the written stage that matters for Officer Scale I final selection. It covers Reasoning, Computer Knowledge, General Awareness, one Language section (English or Hindi) and Quantitative Aptitude.

Candidates who clear the applicable Main cutoffs are shortlisted for the Common Interview.

Stage 3 — Common Interview

The Interview carries 100 marks. The notified minimum qualifying percentage is:

  • 40% for General/EWS candidates

  • 35% for SC/ST/OBC/PwBD candidates

Clearing the minimum does not by itself guarantee allotment. Final selection remains merit- and vacancy-dependent.

Final merit — 80:20

For Officer Scale I, the relative weight of the Online Main Examination and Interview is 80:20.

Prelims → screening only Main → 80% relative weight Interview → 20% relative weight

This is the most important difference from RRB Office Assistant, where there is no interview.

Provisional allotment

A final combined score high enough for the relevant State/category is still subject to actual vacancies, document verification, eligibility, local-language requirements and the participating RRB process. Provisional allotment should not be described as an unconditional appointment.

What this means for preparation

Do not wait for Prelims to finish before starting Main GA and Computer Knowledge. Also do not treat Interview preparation as a ten-day personality course. Follow rural banking, the economy, financial inclusion, agriculture/MSME credit, your chosen State/RRB and your own academic/work profile throughout preparation so the Interview stage has a real knowledge base.
