IBPS PO Selection Process

The official PO/MT pathway: Preliminary Examination, Main Examination, Personality Test, Interview and final merit.

StageRole in the process
Preliminary ExaminationOnline screening stage. Candidates must meet the notified sectional and total cutoffs to progress.
Main ExaminationOnline objective test plus descriptive English test. It is the principal written merit stage.
Personality TestUndertaken for shortlisted candidates; the current notification describes it as non-qualifying.
InterviewConducted for shortlisted candidates; candidates must obtain the notified minimum interview score.
Final meritThe current notification states a weightage of 80% for Main Examination and 20% for Interview.

What this means for candidates

Prelims is essential but it does not carry forward into final merit under the notified process. Build Main-level capability while preparing for Prelims, particularly for Data Analysis & Interpretation, banking awareness and descriptive English.

Current-cycle caution

The live recruitment page and detailed notification are the authority for shortlist counts, cutoffs, dates and operational instructions. A tentative calendar is not a substitute for a cycle-specific notice.
